PDWP Approves Development Schemes Worth Rs 72 Billion in Punjab


Lahore, The 48th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP), chaired by Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan, Chairman of the Planning and Development Board, has green-lighted a series of development initiatives totaling an estimated cost of Rs 72,000.997 million. These projects span across various sectors, including water management, healthcare, road improvement, and infrastructure development, aiming to enhance the living standards and economic prospects of Punjab’s citizens.



According to Planning and Development Board – Punjab, the approved schemes include notable projects such as the channelization of Jabba Nullah in Tehsil and District Mianwali and the concrete lining of Maggi Magassom Link, alongside significant investments in the rehabilitation of water systems, roads, and healthcare facilities across the province. Among these, the National Program for Improvement of Watercourses in Pakistan (Punjab component) Phase-II stands out with a budget of Rs 47,503.49 million, highlighting the government’s focus on improving agricultural efficiency and water resource management.



Further investments will enhance medical services, with funds allocated for the replacement of beds and other equipment in Rural Health Centers (RHCs) and the provision of CT Scan services in selected Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals (THQs) on an outsourced model. Road infrastructure improvements include the rehabilitation of the Ferozepur Road from Gajumata to Kasur and numerous other projects aimed at improving connectivity and transportation within the province.



The meeting was attended by Secretary P and D Board Dr. Asif Tufail, Chief Economist Mr. Nasir Iqbal Malik, members of the P and D Board, heads of relevant departments, and senior representatives from various provincial departments, indicating a collaborative effort towards sustainable development in Punjab.



These projects underscore the provincial government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure needs, enhancing healthcare services, and improving water management practices, thereby contributing to the overall development and prosperity of Punjab.
