Lahore: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has emphasized that political stability is essential for Pakistan to achieve economic self-reliance and sustainable development through an export-led economy. Addressing the ‘South Asian Federation of Accountants International Future of Finance Summit’ in Lahore, Iqbal highlighted the resilience demonstrated by the nation in the face of challenges, such as the aggression from India last year. He expressed optimism about Pakistan’s potential transformation within the next decade if national interests are prioritized over personal gains.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal underscored the importance of increasing Pakistan’s exports, setting a long-term target of 400 billion dollars and a short-term goal of 100 billion dollars by 2030. He believes that achieving these targets is crucial for the country’s economic progress.
At the same summit, Khurram Schehzad, Advisor to the Finance Minister, discussed the government’s efforts to create new opportunities for economic growth. He mentioned improvements in the tax system, financial transparency, and the implementation of investor-friendly policies as key measures. Schehzad stressed the government’s commitment to sustainable economic growth, fiscal discipline, investment promotion, export enhancement, and the establishment of robust institutional structures.
Highlighting the role of youth in Pakistan’s future, Schehzad described them as the country’s most valuable asset. He emphasized the urgent need to provide young people with quality education, modern skills, and opportunities to contribute to the nation’s economic development.
