Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Aims to Double Pakistan’s Exports in Five Years

Karachi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced his determination to double Pakistan’s export volume within the next five years. Speaking to the business community in Karachi, the Prime Minister outlined the government’s plan to achieve this ambitious target through a comprehensive policy framework developed in consultation with industry leaders.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that increasing exports is key to achieving export-led growth, which will ultimately support broader economic development. The policy framework will focus on agriculture, mines and minerals, information technology, and industry to drive this growth.

The Prime Minister also expressed the government’s commitment to addressing unemployment, poverty, and inflation, acknowledging these as significant challenges facing the country. He indicated that a multi-faceted approach would be required to create sustainable solutions.

Regarding the sugar situation, Prime Minister Sharif mentioned that the government would consider exporting the commodity if there is a surplus in the stock. He also stated that measures are being taken to curb smuggling to maintain a stable sugar supply within the country.

Sharif noted that positive news is emerging in macroeconomic indicators due to the government’s prudent policies. He cited a surplus in the current account, increasing remittances, declining inflation, and record progress in the stock exchange as signs of economic improvement.

On the topic of privatization, the Prime Minister assured that the process would be conducted transparently and without bureaucratic delays. He stressed that the government is committed to ensuring the privatization process benefits the economy and is conducted in a fair manner.

The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to support the business community, including immediate rebates worth 65 billion rupees paid shortly after assuming office. This gesture reflects the government’s commitment to providing relief to businesses and stimulating economic activity.

The address to the business community underscored the Prime Minister’s focus on economic growth and his vision for a more prosperous Pakistan driven by increased exports and targeted economic reforms.
