Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Directs Abolishment of Pakistan Public Works Department

Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the immediate dissolution of the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD), citing its long-term underperformance and issues of corruption.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the directive came during a high-level meeting focused on reducing government expenditures and downsizing infrastructure. The Prime Minister declared that the Pak PWD had failed to meet its objectives and called for an alternative action plan to ensure the continuation of development projects previously managed by the department. The meeting also included discussions led by Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Jahanzeb Khan, who presented a report recommending the abolition and merger of some state enterprises. Following the presentation, Prime Minister Sharif requested further recommendations to streamline government functions and enhance efficiency.
