Islamabad: The Prime Minister said that he had been advocating their cause in this regard in all the forums and also during his visits to the countries where Pakistanis were settled. He said that Pakistanis working in other countries were keenly interested in the peace and progress of their native land. They have always assisted their countrymen during the difficult times like natural calamities, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister said that this decision would enable the Overseas Pakistanis to play their positive role in the country’s politics as they were doing in the economy of the country by contributing more than 11 billion dollars per annum.
The Prime Minister has asked the relevant authorities to work out the modalities enabling them to exercise their right of vote with convenience in the foreign countries.
It may be mentioned that the Election Commission informed in the meeting held today about the electoral roll of 3.7 million Overseas Pakistanis who are holding the NIC cards.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Law and Justice, Labour and Manpower and representatives from other relevant organizations.
All the Ministries have committed to play their respective roles to enable the Overseas Pakistanis to cast their votes with ease. Each Ministry will work out further details of the task assigned to them and will present the same to the Committee in its next meeting.
