Belarus and Pakistan Seek to Strengthen Bilateral Economic Ties

During a meeting with Mr. Andrei Metelitsa, the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Mr. Ahad Khan Cheema, discussed ways to deepen economic and trade relationships between the two nations. According to Press Information Department, the dialogue focused on commitments from the 6th Session of the Pakistan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission held in Minsk in January 2023, which set the stage for expanded cooperation in sectors such as trade, agriculture, health, science and technology, and tourism. Ambassador Metelitsa emphasized the need to enhance trade, which is currently below potential, through increased Government to Government and Business to Business interactions, and more streamlined banking procedures. Minister Cheema highlighted opportunities for joint ventures, particularly in agricultural machinery well-suited for Pakistan, and identified potential Pakistani exports like textiles, agricultural products, and surgical equipment that could find m
arkets in Belarus. He also noted opportunities for Belarus to invest in heavy machinery and plant joint ventures in Pakistan. The meeting concluded with mutual commitments to utilize the Pak-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission as a platform to strengthen economic ties and explore new avenues for bilateral cooperation.
