Amritsar, The escalating targeted violence against Sikh activists affiliated with the Khalistan movement has claimed the life of Rattandeep Singh, a noted figure within the movement. Singh was killed in an ambush by motorcycle-riding gunmen in the Balachaur area of Punjab, marking a significant escalation in attacks against Sikh leaders and activists advocating for Khalistan, both within India and on an international scale.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the attack took place while Singh was traveling by car, accompanied by his nephew. The assailants managed to flee the scene immediately after the shooting. In a chilling aftermath, authorities found a poster at the site of the attack, purportedly left by the gunmen, which attributed the killing to an individual identified as Gopi Nawanshahria.
The local law enforcement, represented by Nawanshahr SP Mukesh Sharma, has announced that a detailed investigation into this brazen act of violence is in progress.
Rattandeep Singh had been a significant figure within the Khalistan movement, with previous reports indicating his arrest by the Punjab Police in 2014. He was said to be associated with the Bhindrawala Tiger Force Militant Group, a claim that situates him firmly within the ongoing struggle for Sikh sovereignty and highlights the peril faced by those involved in the Khalistan movement.
