Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed Pakistan’s eagerness to expand cooperation with Russia, particularly in the areas of energy and barter trade. This intention was conveyed during discussions with Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev in Islamabad. President Zardari highlighted the importance of engaging Russian banks in Pakistan to facilitate trade and called for increased cultural cooperation, especially in television and films.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting also served as an opportunity for President Zardari to congratulate Vladimir Putin on his re-election as the President of the Russian Federation, expressing optimism for Russia’s economic progress under Putin’s leadership. Additionally, President Zardari extended condolences for the tragic loss of 130 lives in a terrorist attack in Moscow, underscoring the mutual concerns of both nations regarding terrorism.
Ambassador Khorev, felicitating President Zardari on his assumption of office, reiterated Russia’s interest in contributing to the economic development and prosperity of Pakistan. Highlighting the existing cooperation between the two countries on issues of counterterrorism and anti-smuggling, the Ambassador expressed Russia’s ambition to double the trade volume with Pakistan, reflecting a mutual desire for stronger bilateral relations and economic ties.
