Pulwama observes shutdown on 8th day over memorial row

Srinagar, January 07, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, all the business establishments and shops remained closed while traffic was off the roads on eighth consecutive day, today, in Pulwama town. Indian police personnel were deployed in every nook and corner of the town to thwart anti-India protests and puppet authorities did not allow the youth to set up a memorial in the town.

The youth in Pulwama want to set up a memorial with posters and pictures of martyred Mujahideen and other victims of Indian state terrorism but the puppet regime is not allowing them. Till date meetings between the authorities and locals have failed to break the deadlock. The youth have said that the strike would continue till they are not allowed to put the memorial at place.

Pertinently, the protest strike erupted after killing of two youth including Manzoor Ahmad Butt by Indian troops on December 31, 2015 in Pulwama, which continues till date. The President of Traders Federation, Pulwama, Bashir Ahmad Wani said that they had requested the civil and police administration to allow the youth to install the memorial with only some Quran verses, but they did not agree to the demand.

“Martyrs graveyard is there since 1931, and a signboard reading Mazar-e-Shuhada already stands there. But the authorities are not ready to allow installation of one more signboard reading Mazar-e-Shuhada and carrying a Quranic verse,” Ahmad told media men. He said there will be nothing objectionable in the sign to be erected’. However, the Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama, Niraj Kumar, said that they won’t allow the memorial to be installed.
