Punjab Government to Standardize Sanitation with New Statewide System

Lahore, The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is set to overhaul the province’s sanitation systems by introducing a uniform model aimed at enhancing cleanliness across both urban and rural areas. This initiative was discussed in a video conference overseen by Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq, involving Municipal Chief Officers from across the province.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the meeting aimed to review progress on the outsourcing model under the “Sathra Punjab” program and set the groundwork for pilot projects in sanitation. Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian, along with other senior officials, directed the Chief Officers to compile and submit details regarding the human resources and machinery currently available in their jurisdictions.

Minister Zeeshan Rafiq emphasized the commitment of Chief Minister Sharif to standardize sanitation operations across Punjab, starting with pilot projects in selected tehsils by every waste management company. He underscored the importance of this initiative, stating that no laxity in maintaining cleanliness standards would be tolerated, and highlighted the need for an efficient and sustainable sanitation model.

Additionally, the meeting covered the necessary preparations for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha, with a focus on ensuring optimal cleaning arrangements are in place. This meeting marks a significant step towards achieving comprehensive sanitation improvements throughout Punjab, reflecting the government’s proactive approach to public health and cleanliness.
