Qaim Ali Shah presides meeting of Relief and Disaster Management Programme

Karachi, October 20, 2012 (PPI-OT): Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah today presided a meeting regarding relief and disaster management at Chief Minister House. The meeting was attended among others by Minister for rehabilitation Haji Muzaffar Shujra, Advisor to C.M for relief Mr. Haleem Adil Shaikh, Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbas, ACS(Finance) Mr. Muhammad Arif Khan, Secretary Rehabilitation / Relief Mr. Hashim Raza Zaidi, Secretary Education Mr. Mukhtiar Soomro, Secretary Health Mr. Aftab Ahmed Khatri, Principal Secretary to CM Agha Jan Akhtar and others. Chief Minister Sindh said that the recent heavy rains have damaged six districts of Upper Sindh and still water is there in some of districts prominently in Jacobabad and Kashmor-Kandhkot.

He said that the situation is very worst in rain affected areas; as such it is very essential that before cold of winter season, the people residing in relief camps or open places in tents be provided food without fail and necessary health care be provided to them.

He said that the ration, tents, mosquito nets, medicines etc be frequently provided to affected people. Advisor to C.M Sindh for relief Mr. Haleem Adil Shaikh informed that in all 121 Union Councils of Six districts and about 31-lac people have been affected. He said that 264691 people are at relief camps while 12005-vilagers have been affected. The total crop of 245459-acres have been damaged while 2421 people were injured and 258-persons had died and 438 relief camps have been established.

Chief Minister Sindh directed to early supply ration, tents, mosquito nets, Medicines and blankets to affected families, for which he approved an immediate allocation of Rs: One billion. Syed Qaim Ali Shah also directed Secretary Livestock to provide veterinary treatment facility to animals as there is big causality of animals during rains.
