Report Highlights Dire Human Rights Situation in Indian-Administered Kashmir

Islamabad: A new report underscores a pervasive atmosphere of fear and terror among the residents of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), describing the region as akin to an “open-air prison.”

According to Kashmir Media Service, the report details how the Modi government has intensified rights violations over the past four years, significantly impacting the daily lives of the Kashmiri population. With over one million Indian troops stationed in the region, the report describes frequent cordons, searches, and raids, during which civilians are often subjected to what it characterizes as brutal repression.

Further, it mentions that authorities frequently arrest civilians, applying severe legal measures, often referred to as “black laws,” to suppress dissent. The report expresses concerns that these tactics, which it claims are aimed at quelling the Kashmiri struggle for autonomy, will ultimately fail as the Kashmiri people remain resolute in their resistance.

The document calls on the international community, including the United Nations, to take decisive action to support the rights of the people in IIOJK and to help resolve the longstanding dispute in the region.
