Rioters involved in attacking military installations will be tried under Military Act: Asif

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif says trials of the miscreants involved in attacks on military installations will be run in military courts under Military Act.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera, he said the attacks on military installations during protests were acts of rebellion against the state.

Khawaja Asif said military installations were intentionally targeted. He said the attacks were planned and those were not spontaneous.

The Defence Minister said the anger was directed towards the military and several military installations were ransacked, some on fire.

He said there would be absolute transparency in these cases and there are three layer of appeals that go through the army chief, the high court and then the Supreme Court.
