Secretary Local Government urges officers to prepare plan for protecting citizens from dengue

Karachi, April 18, 2014 (PPI-OT): Secretary Local Government Javed Hanif has directed the local government officials to conduct a full campaign against dengue with the coordination of health department in all small and big cities of Sindh and take all possible measures to protect the people from this deadly disease.

He said this while addressing a meeting of administrators of different cities, director local government, assistant directors and other concerned officers. Instructing the officials to immediately prepare and submit him a plan in connection with the anti dengue campaign, he said those officers who would not perform better will lose their post.

He said this matter pertains to life and health of citizens and therefore we all have the responsibility to deal with it effectively. He directed officers to purchase the machinery and insecticides according to their resources and carry out fumigation after preparing the schedule of spray for different areas and inform him about the daily progress.

The Secretary Local Government said in order to achieve better results, these works should be performed with the coordination of health department. He said to officers that instead of putting the responsibility on others they should step up and take effective measures for saving the province of Sindh from dengue.

During the meeting administrator municipal corporation Haiderabad Qamar Shaikh, Director local government Mirpurkhas Ubaidullah Siddiqui, director local government Haiderabad Zahid Kheemtu, director local government Larkana Ishaq Khoro and director local government Sukker Zakir Hussain informed the Secretary about the measures that have been taken by them in their division.

They said that following the directive of local government department, the anti dengue drive was already begun with the fumigation work. Secretary local government instructed the officers to provide awareness to people residing in rural areas about the preventive measures and treatment of dengue because prevention is always better than cure.

He said the local government department will make all efforts to contain the number of dengue cases and for this all municipal organizations must adopt a comprehensive and effective strategy with the coordination of other stakeholders.

He urged the officers to conduct the survey of hospitals and health care centers running under the town committees and corporations and compile full data of the capacity of these institutions so that they could be better prepared to deal with any situation.
