Senior Pakistani Judges Visit U.S. to Strengthen Legal Ties and Exchange Expertise

Washington: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, welcomed a high-level delegation of senior judges from Pakistan, led by Honourable Justice Shahid Waheed of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The delegation’s visit aims to enhance legal cooperation and exchange knowledge to improve the justice system in Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the delegation includes Honourable Justices from the High Courts of Lahore, Sindh, Peshawar, and Islamabad, as well as judges from the district judiciary. Accompanying them are Additional Attorney General Martina Polášek, Secretary General of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) at the World Bank, Zamrak Khan, and members of the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Their visit to the United States focuses on interacting with American counterparts to discuss strengthening the domestic and cross-border dispute settlement environment, improving contract enforcement, reducing court backlogs, and ensuring efficient and effective access to justice for Pakistani citizens, businesses, and investors.

Ambassador Sheikh highlighted the importance of such high-level exchanges in bolstering the multifaceted ties between Pakistan and the United States, particularly in capacity building and service delivery in the judicial system. He emphasized the upward trajectory of Pak-US relations and the critical role of these interactions in legal and judicial reforms.

Justice Shahid Waheed remarked on the significance of the visit as a “journey of hope and dream,” expressing the commitment of Pakistan’s legal fraternity to ensure an efficient and speedy justice system. Martina Polášek shared her optimism that the visit would promote knowledge sharing and strengthen ties between the two nations.

The ambassador concluded the meeting by extending his best wishes for a successful and productive exchange, underscoring the need for increased frequency of such interactions to enhance the justice system further.
