Karachi: SG Allied Businesses Limited, formerly known as SG Fibre Limited, has successfully pivoted from its previous struggles in the Polyester Filament Yarn industry to establish a thriving presence in high-tech agriculture.
After ceasing its polyester operations in December 2006 due to intense competition and various economic challenges, the company has now reported a healthy bottom line, thanks to its innovative shift to agriculture. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), SG Allied is currently one of the few companies in Pakistan that has effectively transformed its business model to adapt to new market demands.
The company’s revival was meticulously planned and executed with internal resources and directorial loans. Today, SG Allied operates a sophisticated facility for high-tech agriculture, including hydroponics technology sourced from Holland. The company specializes in producing high-end vegetables and mushrooms, which are supplied to leading supermarkets such as SPAR stores, Springs Stores, EBCO stores, Fresh Basket, and Move n Pick, as well as prominent restaurants like Kolachi, Lal Qila, and BBQ Tonight.
Further enhancing its business scope, SG Allied has engaged international consultants from Turkey and Holland to boost productivity and quality. The company is currently in discussions with two more supermarket chains to distribute its products nationwide. Additionally, a major FMCG company has shown interest in using SG Allied’s produce for creating new products like pickles and sauces.
This strategic redirection not only marks a significant recovery from previous business setbacks but also positions SG Allied as a leader in sustainable agricultural practices in Pakistan.
