Lahore, February 16, 2015 (PPI-OT): Shah Faisal Afridi, President Pak-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has urged the business community of Pakistan to take all possible measures for entering into the Era of electronic trade through E-Commerce. In a statement issued here today he said that currently the over-all volume of e-commerce in Pakistan was more than $4 billion per annum. It is estimated that in near future, almost 25 per cent of the traditional business will be converted into internet business, he added.
He elaborated that establishing business through e-commerce is effective due to low cost, and billions of the buyers and sellers can be connected simultaneously across the world. E-commerce, if handled well can greatly reduce the costs of a company and achieve better results than the traditional form of business he said adding that according to an authentic estimate, E-commerce is going to change the whole world in future, therefore Government of Pakistan should take better initiative to improve the required infrastructure to promote the E-Business in Pakistan, because Pakistan is still far behind in chasing the west in this field, asserted Afridi.
Highlighting the issue Faisal Afridi said that we must understand that almost 78 per cent of the e-commerce activity takes place in USA, obviously driven by the use of internet in that country. Nevertheless, Pakistan can make good use of this opportunity with proper planning and execution, he maintained and suggested to focus on the domestic front before going all out for the global market.
Faisal Afridi further said that E-commerce was an information technology trend developing fast in the business world. Internationally, the corporate sector with the support of IT industry generated over $400 billion this year, Mr. Afridi informed and emphasized upon the need to change the perception of Entrepreneurs regarding e-commerce in order for building a strong foundation for E-business. He was of the view that entrepreneurs should be taught about latest and most popular trends of e-commerce such as, business-to-consumers (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B), Business-to-government (B2G) and government-to-citizens (G2C).
Afridi observed that Pakistan, being a developing country, was in a process of making its way towards the road of technology. “The internet is prevailing like dark cloud on Pakistan at present, but it has a capacity to supplement economy positively in the near future”, said Afridi.
He pointed out that e-commerce had created a cost-efficient marketing opportunity for SMEs, which could not approach the target audience through traditional medium of advertisement because of the financial constraints.
Moreover, online shopping has been one of the new trends in the world; People are willing to purchase items of their need online, which has resulted into Online shopping portals to grow and prosper, Mr. Afridi said and urged the government of Pakistan to take concrete measures to bring the necessary policies, laws and processing framework for promoting e-commerce as a formal means of business transactions.
