Sindh Chief Minister Announces Solar Panel Initiative for Low-Income Families Amid Rising Electricity Costs

Karachi: Addressing concerns over escalating electricity bills that have burdened residents, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced a new initiative to provide solar panels or free electricity units to impoverished families in the region.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the initiative, inspired by directives from Chairman People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, aims to alleviate the financial strain of high electricity costs by offering solar energy solutions to those in need. This announcement was made during a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House, which focused on crafting effective proposals for the solarisation of both off-grid and on-grid low-income households.

Present at the meeting were key figures including Energy Minister Syed Nasir Shah, Agriculture Provincial Minister Mohammad Bakhsh Khan Mehr, and other senior officials. Energy Minister Nasir Shah introduced the Benazir Solar Program, indicating that nearly 2 million low-income families, consuming about 100 units of electricity monthly, would benefit from this scheme. Additionally, plans for implementing six micro-grids and three large solar parks under public-private partnerships were discussed to further support the provision of sustainable energy.
