Sindh Enhances Heatwave Response with Extensive Support Network

Karachi: Sindh’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has escalated its efforts in response to the ongoing heatwave, spanning from May 21 to July 5, 2024, to bolster the region’s readiness and mitigate the impact on residents. A comprehensive network of heat stabilization camps and extensive public awareness initiatives are key components of this campaign.

According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority, close coordination is maintained between the Provincial Emergency Operation Centre, District Emergency Operation Centres (EOCs), and 40 humanitarian partners to implement the Heatwave Response Plan effectively. Over the period, 294 heat stabilization camps have been established across various districts, providing critical support and information to the affected communities.

Further efforts include regular visits to heat stabilization camps by Deputy Commissioners and Chairmen of District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), the initiation of a Plantation Drive to combat heat effects, and the safe transportation of patients requiring urgent care to specialized heat stroke centers and hospitals. The campaign also leverages print, electronic, social, and local media to educate and inform the public about the dangers of heatwaves and the available support.
