Sindh Responds to Heatwave with Extensive Relief Efforts and Public Awareness Campaigns

Karachi: As the heatwave of 2024 continues to impact Sindh, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has intensified its response efforts, coordinating with local agencies to establish heat stabilization camps and raise public awareness on the dangers of extreme temperatures. The ongoing initiative, spanning from May 21 to July 6, involves a comprehensive network of humanitarian partners and government officials.

According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority, the establishment of 294 heat stabilization camps across various districts has been a key component of the response. These camps are supported by 40 humanitarian partners who also facilitate informative sessions and distribute educational materials to help the public understand and mitigate the risks associated with heatwaves. Efforts include the utilization of multiple media platforms to ensure widespread outreach.

Additionally, PDMA Sindh and district emergency operation centers maintain rigorous oversight of the situation, enhancing preparedness and support mechanisms. Local officials have also launched plantation drives in some districts, promoting environmental measures that contribute to cooler local climates.
