Sopori’s family demands return of sealed house

Srinagar, June 30, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the family members of APHC leader, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, have urged the International Committee of Red Cross to play its role in releasing their house sealed by the Indian authorities on baseless charges seven years ago.

The APHC leader’s family members in a statement issued in Srinagar termed the action of the Indian authorities as the worst example of human rights. They said that India was, perhaps, the only country in the world where a person and his family members are forced to vacate their own house because of political ideology.

The family members said that Indian police on the basis of a false charge forcibly sealed the triple-story house built on their own land in Chhanapura area of Srinagar on June 30, 2012. However, police and civil administration have failed to provide any proof against Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, the statement added. The family members demanded the return of the house as soon as possible.
