Team Leader of Experts for European Union, visited Intellectual Property Organization, headquarter on Thursday and met with Director General Intellectual Property Organization

Islamabad: Team Leader of Experts for European Union Mr. Thierry Noyelle during his stay in Pakistan, visited Intellectual Property Organization (IPO), headquarter on Thursday and met with Director General IPO- Pakistan Mr. Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta. The Executive Director Mr. Umar Dad Afridi, Directors Mr. Meesaq Arif, Dr. Muhammad Khurram and other IP Officers and Experts were also present on the occasion.

Talking on the occasion, the Director General IPO Mr. Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta underlined the significance of IP rights and stated that a comprehensive programme is being implemented to create awareness about the protection of IP rights among the masses besides developing linkages between inventors and industry to promote creations and innovations.

The DG IPO was of the view that a number of projects were also being implemented for capacity building and training of enforcement partners. Similarly, agreements are being signed between IPO, educational institutions and stakeholders to promote research and business friendly environment in the country, he added.

The ongoing Trade Related Technical Assistance (TRTA II) Programme was discussed on the occasion and the progress of different aspects relating to automation and capacity building of IP experts were also elaborated by the IP Officers during the briefing. The Director General IPO said that service delivery system with regard to registration of IP rights could be further improved after studying successful IP models of different countries.

Mr. Thierry Novelle termed the implementation on TRTA programme satisfactory and appreciated the integrated IP Management System in Pakistan which had provided better facilities to the IP right owners.

He said that protection of IP rights is directly linked with economic development and the purpose of their visit to Pakistan is to review the Trade Needs Assessment for European Union. He said with the strengthening of service delivery system and protection of IP rights, we can restore the confidence of investors as well as business community.
