Towards a Stronger, Wider and Deeper Relationship With India

LONDON, Aug. 6 / PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ —

While David Cameron was calling for a “stronger, wider and deeper” relationship between Britain and India last week, some of India’s most distinguished people were planning to gather in London to celebrate Asian achievement throughout the world.

The Asian Awards, in partnership with Lebara, being held on 26 October at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London are the first global awards of their kind to recognise excellence from across the sub-continent in such a broad range of endeavours.

The combined estimated net worth of the individuals to be represented at the event is a staggering $100billion, demonstrating the truly global nature of this celebration.

Confirmed participants include business mogul Ratan Tata, Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire); Chairman of United Breweries Group and Kingfisher Airlines, Vijay Mallya, Yash Chopra – probably Bollywood’s greatest director; BBC’s News at Six main presenter George Alagiah OBE, global philanthropist, Sunil Mittal, sculptor Anish Kapoor and legendary playback singer Sonu Niigaam.

The Prime Minister’s recent delegation of ministers and representatives of business, sport and culture to India promoted increased trade and investment with the UK.

Speaking from Bangalore David Cameron said, “India represents an enormous opportunity for British companies. Already our trade relationship is worth GBP11.5 billion a year. But I want us to go further. India plans to invest $500 billion in infrastructure in the coming years. That is of course good for Indian business, but it is also a chance for British companies to generate growth.”

The Asian Awards, in partnership with Lebara, represents a strong bridge to deeper corporate, cultural and personal relationships which will be essential in answering the Prime Minister’s call.

“This event promises to be one of the most important gatherings of powerful and influential individuals, including CEOs of some of the world’s biggest companies,” said Caroline Jackson Levy managing director of organisers UBM Awards. “We are thrilled and honoured so many distinguished people are travelling here especially to be with us in London.”

The Asian Awards is the most lavish new event to be established in the UK for decades. It’s comprised of distinguished independent judges, the most prestigious presentation ceremony, world-class entertainment, exceptional hospitality and outstanding cuisine.

The Great Room of the Grosvenor House Hotel, Europe’s largest ballroom, will provide guests with the ultimate in banqueting and comfort. Unusually, the public will not be excluded as tickets are available at http://www.theasianawards.com
