Transporters’ Strike Poses Economic Challenges, Warns Trade Leader

Karachi: Faisal Moiz Khan, President of the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), has voiced concern over a nationwide strike by goods transporters that is disrupting the flow of export and import goods. He has called on the government to urgently address the issue.

Khan highlighted the economic impact of frequent transporter strikes and stressed the need for the government to communicate clearly that actions harming the economy are unacceptable.

As a resolution, Khan suggested the introduction of freight railway services from Karachi to other parts of the country and from major cities to Karachi. He advocated for a strategy involving fast freight trains to expedite the delivery of goods and cut down on transportation costs.

Khan noted that the strike has halted the delivery of both export and import goods. He expressed particular concern about exporters’ inability to meet commitments to foreign buyers, which could lead to export order cancellations. Additionally, goods stuck at ports may incur demurrage and detention charges, resulting in significant financial losses for the business sector.
