Islamabad: UNICEF has condemned a deadly attack in Mastung, Balochistan, which reportedly claimed the lives of at least five children and left 17 others injured, including many schoolchildren. The children were attending a nearby school when an explosive device detonated, resulting in a tragic loss of life and severe injuries among young students.
According to United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, UNICEF extended its condolences to the families affected and expressed its commitment to supporting the injured in their recovery. The organization emphasized that violence in or around educational establishments and health facilities is entirely unacceptable, urging that schools be preserved as safe spaces for learning, friendship, and personal development. UNICEF reiterated that no parent should fear for their child’s safety when sending them to school and called for all measures to protect children’s fundamental rights.
UNICEF’s statement further stressed that children and adolescents must never be targets of violence and called for an immediate end to acts that threaten their safety. “Going to school should never be an act of courage,” the statement concluded, underscoring the need for a collective commitment to ensure children’s protection in conflict zones.
