Islamabad: The U.S.-sponsored Teacher Training Education Project is strengthening reforms in teacher education in Pakistan. At a two-day teacher training conference in Islamabad, educators and officials gathered to share ideas on how to sustain the progress the project has made in teacher education reform.
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Education Office Director, Jo Lesser-Oltheten, said in her address that Pakistan and the United States share a common belief in the importance of quality basic education.
“Pakistan and the United States have enjoyed a long and productive cooperation spanning more than 60 years,” she explained. “Education has been a major focus of that relationship, and USAID’s Teacher Education Project is yet another expression of the U.S. Government’s long- term commitment to building a strong and prosperous Pakistan.”
Speaking at the conference, Dr. Samina Qadir, Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women’s University, expressed appreciation for the efforts the United States Government has made to improve the quality of basic education in Pakistan by helping prepare better trained, more reflective teachers.
