Visit to Bangladesh by a delegation of National Defence University, Islamabad

Islamabad: A 17-member delegation of the National Defence University, Islamabad, visited Bangladesh on 7-13 April 2012. After arrival in Dhaka, the delegation visited the Pakistan High Commission where a comprehensive briefing was given to them by the High Commissioner, Mr. Afrasiab, on Pakistan-Bangladesh relations. says a press release received here today from Dhaka.

During the visit, the delegation made a courtesy call on the President of Bangladesh. The delegation also visited the three Services Headquarters, Armed Forces Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Grameen Bank Headquarters, and other important institutions in Dhaka. The delegation also undertook a visit to Chittagong.

The delegation was led by Brigadier Wasim Ishaq. In addition to officers from the armed forces of Pakistan, the delegation included officers from the Pakistan civil service and two officers from the armed forces of Zimbabwe and the UK.

Pakistan and Bangladesh enjoy brotherly and mutually beneficial relations. In the recent past, a number of initiatives have taken place to further strengthen relations, including the following:

Pakistan’s National Cricket Team visited Bangladesh from 26 November to 22 December 2011

A National Management College team from Lahore visited Bangladesh on 20-24 November 2011

Eighteen Pakistani companies participated in the Dhaka International Trade Fair, on 1-31 January 2012

Pakistan Cricket Team participated in the Asia Cup Cricket Tournament, held in Bangladesh from 8-22 March 2012

Mr. Shaukat Ullah, Minister for States and Frontier Regions, visited Bangladesh on 22-24 March 2012 to represent the Prime Minister of Pakistan at the Asia Cup final match played between Pakistan and Bangladesh on 22 March

Fourteen Pakistani companies participated in the 11th SAARC Trade Fair and Tourism Mart-2012, held in Dhaka from 30 March to 1 April.

Mir Shahjahan Khetran, Managing Director, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation, visited Dhaka from 31 March to 3 April 2012 for participation in the 11th SAARC Trade fair and Tourism Mart-2012.

Education Minister of Bangladesh, Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid would be visiting Pakistan on 14-18 April 2012 to attend a conference arranged by the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South.
