Wapda Chairman Visits Flood Affected Areas in Sindh

Lahore: In order to personally monitor and assess the flood-situation on ground, Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Shakil Durrani today visited flood-affected areas in Tando Muhammad Khan and Badin districts of Sindh province.

He was accompanied by a WAPDA team of technical experts including General Manager (South) and other officers concerned.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman said that WAPDA is providing technical support to the province for drainage of the flood water from the affected areas. He directed the WAPDA officers concerned to expedite their efforts in this regard and keep a close liaison to the provincial as well as local management.

WAPDA General Manager (South), briefing the Chairman, said that the flood situation is being monitored closely and the local and provincial authorities are being provided with every possible assistance to tackle the issue. The Chairman was informed about the damage done to the irrigation and drainage systems of the province due to the recent floods caused by the heavy rains in Sindh.

Earlier, the Chairman had a visit to the various localities of Tando Muhammad Khan and Badin districts to inspect the drainage networks. He also visited the Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD) to witness the condition of embankments and structures and situation of water flows in the drain.

It is worth mentioning here that WAPDA technical experts are frequently visiting the affected areas to witness the situation and provide support to the quarters concerned. In this regard, Member (Water) visited Shaheed Benazir Abad (Nawab Shah) district yesterday.

It is also pertinent to mention that WAPDA had provided technical support to the provinces during the devastating floods last year to help save barrages and irrigation system etc.
