Water and Power Development Authority awards contract for Tarbela Switchyard up-gradation for electricity dispersal after completion of Tarbela 4th Extension Project

Lahore, March 21, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) today signed the contract equivalent to US$ 25 million with M/s ETERN – CCCE – HEI, a consortium of three Chinese Companies, for up-gradation of the existing Switchyard of Tarbela Hydel Power Station for dispersal of electricity from Tarbela Hydel Power Station after completion of the 1410 MW – Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project. As per the contract, up-gradation of Tarbela Switchyard will be completed by the end of May 2017.

The contract signing ceremony was held today here at WAPDA House. WAPDA Chairman Zafar Mahmood, WAPDA Member (Water) Muhammad Shoaib Iqbal, Member (Power) Badr-ul-Munir Murtiza, Member (Finance) Anwar-ul-Haq, Tarbela Dam Project General Manager Iqbal Masood Siddiqui and other senior officers of WAPDA were also present on the occasion. Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project Director Sohail Khan and the Consortium’s Chief Representative Cao Yutao signed the contract on behalf of their organizations.

Speaking on the occasion, WAPDA Chairman urged upon the consortium to complete upgradation of Tarbela Switchyard within stipulated time. The consortium’s Chief Representative assured WAPDA of meeting all the time lines of the project in accordance with the technical specifications and laid down standards.
