We are determined to timely complete National Highway Authority projects: Chairman

Islamabad, December 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): Chairman NHA Maroof Afzal, while highlighting the development vision of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, has said that we are determined to timely complete ongoing NHA projects, and for this, revolutionary changes are being made in the communications sector. He expressed these views while presiding over 231st meeting of NHA’s Executive Board.

The meeting was attended by Inspector General Motorway Police Zulfiqar Cheema, All Members NHA, Planning Commission, Ministry of Communications, NTRC, and NESPAK. In all 25 points were on the agenda of the meeting, during which concerned officials gave a detailed briefing on projects which included Jagloat-Skardu Road, Qallat-Quetta-Chamman Road, Hassanabad-Hawailian Road, Peshawar Northern Bypass, Highway Research and Training Center (HRTC), Biseen-Balakot-Naran Road, Qambar-Shahdadkot Road, Shah Jewna Bridge on River Chenab, Lyari Expressway and Habibabad Flyover. In addition to the above, NHA’s Revised Budget 2012-13, and Annual Maintenance Plan 2013-14 were also discussed.

Chairman NHA, on this occasion, said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has keen interest in Pak-China Trade Corridor and Karachi-Lahore Motorway because these highways will bring development and progress in the region and strengthen relations with the neighbouring countries.

In his concluding remarks, the Chairman said that NHA is the only construction organization of the country that has the capacity to respond to emergency situations during natural calamities and has been able to keep the communications infrastructures intact. He said that if our highways, bridges and flyovers are intact, the country’s traffic will go on and will boost trade, tourism, industry and agriculture and bringing economic progress.
