20th Amendment sorted, general elections to take place on 8th October – Alfalah Securities Limited

Karachi: At last, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz have sorted their reservations on the formation of a caretaker setup, which had constrained the PPP on the passage of the 20th amendment.

According to Alfalah Securities Limited, a caretaker government would be selected by the suggestion of names from the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader, which would then be passed to the six member committee comprising of equal number of members from the PPP and PML-N for resolving any disparity. Moreover, the Interior Minister of Sindh Mr. Manzoor Wasan, has yesterday disclosed the date of the next general elections which is to take place on October 18 2012, therefore ruling out the possibility that the present government would complete its full term. The Prime Minister had also hinted earlier that the political government intends to conduct general elections immediately after the presentation of its 5th fiscal year budget, prior to its due date in May 2012. Hence, Alfalah Securities Limited believes the PPP along with its coalition partners would form a caretaker government with opposition’s consent in July 2012 and general elections would take place as per the disclosed date, which would turn out to be positive as a whole for the economy and for the stock market as the present government lacked vision to run the economy and a new government setup is likely to focus on the country’s economic development.
