Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan 62% say the Supreme Court is not overstepping its mandate; 14% disagree, 24% do not give a view.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Some people think that Supreme Court is taking action by over stepping its mandate and it should not do this.

In your opinion, is the Supreme Court taking actions that are in its mandate or is it overstepping its mandate?” Responding to this 62% believe that that the Supreme Court is taking actions within its mandate whereas 14% believe that Supreme Court is over stepping its mandate. However 24% did not give a view.

The view that the Supreme Court is working within its mandate has risen by 5% points during the last two years. In a similar survey conducted two years ago in 2010, those saying the Supreme court remained within its mandate was 57%, 18% had opposed, 25% did not give a view.

Question: “Some people think that Supreme Court is taking action by over stepping its mandate and it should not do this. In your opinion, is the Supreme Court taking actions that are in its mandate or is it overstepping its mandate?”
