Pakistan and Canada to Bolster Partnership in Minerals and Energy Sectors

Islamabad: Pakistan and Canada have agreed to enhance cooperation in the minerals and energy sectors. This understanding was reached during a meeting between Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Canadian High Commissioner Tarik Ali Khan in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ali Pervaiz Malik emphasized that Canada’s technical assistance in the energy sector would help promote investment in Pakistan. The High Commissioner highlighted that Barrick Gold’s success at Reko Diq exemplifies the strong mineral cooperation between Pakistan and Canada. He noted that Canada’s Ministry of Natural Resources is prepared to support Pakistan’s minerals sector further.

Tarik Ali Khan expressed determination to attract more Canadian companies to the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum this year, emphasizing the benefits local communities are receiving from schools, hospitals, and clean water projects under the Reko Diq initiative. The Petroleum Minister remarked that the Reko Diq project has secured global financial backing, marking it as the largest funding round for any Pakistani project to date.
