Islamabad, Pakistani singer Abrar-ul-Haq has turned down a lucrative opportunity to work in the Indian film industry, citing restrictions on discussing the Kashmir issue as a dealbreaker.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during a recent appearance on a social media podcast, Haq explained that he received offers for movies and music albums from India. However, he declined these offers due to the inclusion of contractual terms that would limit his ability to speak freely about Kashmir, an issue he holds significant concerns over.
Haq highlighted a specific instance where he rejected a movie project from Eros International that was set to feature Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif. Despite the potential career boost and pressure from friends, Haq stood by his principles, stating that he could not agree to conditions that restricted his freedom of expression on such a critical matter.
The podcast also touched on lighter subjects, including Haq’s career and anecdotes from his interactions with other artists like Indian rapper Honey Singh. Haq, known for his music and philanthropic efforts, reiterated his commitment to speaking out on issues important to him, underscoring his decision to prioritize principles over commercial success.
