Administrator Karachi addresses meeting held on monsoon season arrangements

Karachi, January 26, 2014 (PPI-OT): Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui has directed Municipal Services and Engineering Departments to prepare a comprehensive plan for upcoming monsoon season and ensure cleanliness of nullahs, removal of encroachments on nullahs, their expansion, repairing and purchasing of heavy machinery for drainage of rainwater and prepare PC-I for provision of funds from Government of Sindh so that measures could be taken to handle the situation in monsoon season.

He said this while addressing a meeting held on monsoon season arrangements. On this occasion Director General Engineering Department Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Sr. Director Municipal Services Masood Alam, Chief Engineer Electrical Shafi Chachar, Chief Engineer Natural Nullahs Ibrahim Baloch, Chief Engineers of all districts and other officers were also present.

He said that a complete and comprehensive report should be prepared after review of hindrances in flow of water in storm water drains so that measures could be taken for repairing of nullahs and prompt drainage of rainwater.

He directed to start cleanliness of big nullahs of the city on preferential basis and KMC along with all District Municipal Corporations and Cantonment Boards should prepare a joint strategy for monsoon season so that better and effective outcomes could be achieved.

On this occasion Director General Engineering Department Niaz Ahmed Soomro informed that expansion work of Nehr-e-Khayam was underway and the choked lines laid beneath the underpasses would be repaired to ensure prompt drainage of water before monsoon season.
