Punjab Police Intensifies Crackdown on Drug Trafficking Across the Province

Lahore, In line with Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s directives, the Punjab Police, under the leadership of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, has escalated its efforts to combat drug trafficking across the province. This initiative is part of the broader “Drug Free Punjab” campaign aimed at curbing the drug menace that has plagued the region.

According to Punjab Police, in the last 24 hours alone, police forces conducted 289 raids on suspected drug hideouts throughout Punjab, including Lahore, resulting in the arrest of 127 individuals involved in drug-related activities. During these operations, substantial quantities of illegal substances were seized, including 57 kg of charas, 3 kg of heroin, and 1325 liters of liquor.

Since the campaign’s intensification on February 26, the police have carried out a total of 20,015 raids, apprehending 9,845 suspects and filing 9,334 cases against those involved in the drug trade. The operations have led to the confiscation of 6,342 kg of charas, 109 kg of heroin, 34.5 kg of ice, 218 kg of opium, and 123,152 liters of liquor. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has urged the continuation of these robust anti-narcotics efforts and called for the involvement of various community stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and civil society, in the awareness campaign against drug abuse.
