Administrator Karachi warns project directors-engineers to speed up work on development projects

Karachi, January 12, 2014 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui has while taking strict notice of the sluggish attitude of project directors and engineers, warned them to keep active in the field and ensure round the clock work on all development works. On Sunday, the Administrator along with the Director General Technical Services Niaz Ahmed Soomro paid a visit of the proposed site of Malir Halt flyover where he also checked the trench developed on the Drigh Road Flyover.

Taking notice of the absence of project director on Malir Halt flyover site, he issued directive that the project director or his representative must remain on the projects all the time. He said only then the construction company would carry on work and the project completed in time. He said no such carelessness and lacklustre attitude will be tolerated in future and such officials will have to face the disciplinary action. Administrator Karachi also gave instruction for issuance of show cause notice to two engineers and warning to D.G Technical Services.

He said development work on flyover at Malir Halt, Malir 15 and on under pass near Hotel Mehran must be initiated within next 24 hours or concerned project director and construction firm will be facing the action against them.

He said that henceforth he will personally check and inspect the progress on development projects and even pay night visit to see the pace of work. Administrator Rauf Akhtar Farooqui also directed Engineering Department to check all flyovers, bridges in the city and submit the report about their condition within a week time so that immediate repairing and maintenance work could be carried out.

He also instructed all the engineers to ensure immediate maintenance and repairing work on all the roads, flyovers, underpasses and bridges located within their jurisdiction and give more time in field then sitting in office.

This may be noted that Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui had in a joint meeting on Saturday evening given instructions to engineers and representatives of construction firms to start work on all projects from Sunday for which work order had already been issued to construction firms.

He also told them that he will pay unscheduled visit on these projects to check the compliance of the directive by the project directors and construction firms. In this connection he paid a surprise visit to Malir Halt and enquired about the progress of work there on which he was given a briefing but he showed acute dissatisfaction on the pace of work and instructed concerned officials to speed up work so that it could be saved from delay.
