Afghan Ambassador calls on Finance Minister

Islamabad, May 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): Mr. Janan Mosazai, Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan called on Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar at the Finance Ministry, today. The Ambassador briefed the Finance Minister on latest development on CASA-1000 electricity transmission project.

CASA 1000 is a joint project between Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrghizstan. The Ambassador said the Afghan side has a strong commitment to the project and intends to move forward on the project.

The Finance Minister said that Afghanistan is very dear to Pakistan and we have an earnest desire to forge stronger bonds with our neighborly country. He underlined the need for working on fast track to move ahead on regional connectivity.

He emphasized that we are brothers and Pakistan will always be helpful to Afghanistan on all issues. Finance Minister hoped that a reasonable transit fee will be agreed upon by the Afghan side in order to forge ahead.

The Finance Minister added that being Muslims we share common social, cultural and religious heritage. He underlined that it is now time that, in line with our religious traditions; we take this relationship to a new level of economic and regional cooperation which could reflect in consistency of our good neighborly relations. He said that a stable, peaceful and strong Afghanistan will lead to greater economic cooperation between the two countries and beyond.
