Islamabad, Pakistan’s vibrant literary scene was prominently featured at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The event, which runs from April 29 to May 5, included a dedicated stall displaying works by Pakistani authors and hosted panel discussions highlighting the nation’s dramatic and cinematic contributions.
According to Press Information Department, one of the highlights of the fair was a panel discussion titled “Capturing Diverse Realities; Dreaming Many Dreams,” which focused on the rich legacy of Pakistani drama, particularly the influence of Pakistan Television. Esteemed panelists included Amna Mufti, a well-known Urdu playwright and novelist, and Shazia Ali Khan, a UAE-based Urdu film screenplay writer. The session was moderated by Mahwash Ajaz, a writer, journalist, and psychologist.
The discussion celebrated current achievements in Pakistani drama and cinema while offering insights into how to preserve the essence and glory of these art forms for future generations. Additionally, the panel provided a forum for discussing the broader impact of Pakistani culture on the global stage.
Mr. Afaq Ahmad, Deputy Head of Mission from the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi, and Mr. M. Saleh, Press Counsellor, attended the panel. They also visited the Pakistani book stall and engaged with Pakistani writers and publishers present at the event, discussing ongoing and future collaborations.
