KARACHI: Muzzaffar Hayat Piracha, CEO of Air Link Communication, confirmed on that the company has imported only two units of the Xiaomi SU7 electric car to Pakistan but dismissed talks of establishing an assembly plant as “premature.”
During a statement released to the Business Recorder, Piracha highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation and growth but tempered expectations about a rapid expansion into manufacturing. “While we have indeed imported two Xiaomi SU7 electric cars, continued interest in cutting-edge technology, any detailed plans regarding the setup of an ‘assembly plant’ will depend on market dynamics and strategic alignment,” he stated. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Air Link’s exploratory approach aligns with maintaining flexibility in its business strategy while gauging consumer and market reactions.
Piracha’s clarification comes amid speculations that Air Link, known primarily for its telecommunication services, was moving toward launching electric cars in collaboration with Xiaomi, a major player in the global technology sector. At present, the company imports and distributes a range of electronics in Pakistan, including products from brands such as Xiaomi, Samsung, Huawei, and TECNO. The CEO emphasized the importance of strategic market analysis before taking such significant steps toward manufacturing.
Furthermore, Piracha noted that Air Link Communication has seen substantial growth in its core business, with a notable increase of 382% in its profit for the fiscal year 2023-24. The company has already partnered with Xiaomi to produce smart TVs at its manufacturing facility in Lahore. This partnership extends to other technology ventures, reinforcing Air Link’s position in the technology and mobility sectors.
However, despite the excitement around potential electric vehicle production, Piracha was clear that discussions about an assembly plant are still in the early phases and would require more in-depth evaluation and time to materialize. The company remains committed to exploring avenues that could further strengthen AIRLINK’s role in the technology and mobility sectors.
