Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has voiced serious concerns regarding the conditions faced by its detained leaders and activists in jails across Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and India. The group highlighted the inhumane conditions and the neglect of the legal and medical needs of the incarcerated individuals.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas issued a statement in Srinagar condemning the actions of the BJP-led jail authorities. He emphasized that despite the worsening health conditions of those detained, their legitimate needs are being ignored, which he described as a violation of international human rights standards.
The APHC called attention to the denial of basic amenities, including legal aid, for the incarcerated leaders, and urged international human rights organizations to intervene. The group specifically appealed to the United Nations Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, and other agencies to address the plight of these detainees.
In its statement, the APHC pointed out that prominent leaders, including Masarrat Aalam Butt and Muhammad Yasin Malik, are among those enduring harsh conditions and health issues. These individuals have been imprisoned for extensive periods, advocating for self-determination and freedom from what the APHC describes as Indian occupation.
The spokesman praised the resilience of the Kashmiri prisoners, asserting that their spirit remains unbroken despite the harsh conditions. He also called upon the United Nations Secretary-General to press India for transparency in jail conditions and to allow human rights organizations access for assessments.
The APHC reiterated its demand for a resolution to the Kashmir dispute according to United Nations Security Council resolutions, emphasizing the ongoing struggle and sacrifices made by the people of Jammu and Kashmir since 1947.
