Armed Resistance Continues in Kashmir, Challenging Indian Claims of Peace

Jammu: Despite official assertions of tranquility, armed resistance in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) persists, with recent reports indicating significant violence in the region. A Jammu-based newspaper, the Kashmir Times, has documented numerous incidents that contradict the Indian government’s claims of restored peace.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Kashmir Times reported a total of 263 violent incidents in the Kashmir Valley since 2021, which resulted in the deaths of 68 Indian troops. The Jammu region has also experienced increased violence, with 49 soldiers killed during the same period. These developments suggest a broadening of armed resistance, now extending into the Jammu region, which presents new challenges for the Indian armed forces.

The newspaper also highlighted criticism from local political parties, who argue that the recent surge in violence is a direct result of the policies and governance of the BJP-led Indian government. Specifically, they contest the Modi administration’s claims that the revocation of constitutional Articles 370 and 35A, which granted special status to the region, would lead to peace. Instead, the region has seen an escalation in attacks and gunfights, underscoring the ongoing unrest and instability in IIOJK.
