Thiruvananthapuram: A devastating series of landslides triggered by intense rainfall has wreaked havoc across the tea estates of Kerala, resulting in the deaths of at least 123 people and injuries to 128 others. The landslides, which occurred on Tuesday, sent massive flows of mud and debris through villages and worker residences, causing widespread destruction.

According to Kashmir Media Service, emergency response teams have faced formidable challenges navigating through the debris, which includes rocks and uprooted trees, to reach affected areas. The relentless flow of muddy waters has obliterated many homes, leaving residents trapped or missing. Notably, one individual was reported struggling for hours to escape chest-high mud, illustrating the dire conditions on the ground.

State Health Minister Veena George confirmed the injury toll and highlighted the ongoing risks, noting that additional residents are feared to have been swept away by the Chaliyar River. In response to the crisis, state Forest Minister A K Saseendran stated that all possible rescue resources have been mobilized. The situation remains critical as more rainfall is expected throughout the region, potentially exacerbating the already perilous conditions.
