Chief Justice of Pakistan visits Mianwali Central Jail

Islamabad, June 02, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry visited the Central Jail Mianwali today and spent a busy day hearing the grievances of prisoners. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Umer Atta Bandial, Chief Justice, Lahore High Court, Registrar, Lahore High Court , Secretary Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, District and Sessions Judge Mianwali, Chief Secretary, Punjab, IG, prisons and other police officers accompanied the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan during the visit.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry visited the jail building including kitchen, hospital, juvenile and Women Prisoners portion and prisoners wards. His Lordship heard in detail the problems and difficulties faced by the prisoners and issued directions at the spot to redress the grievances.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry also ordered to release five prisoners facing confinement due to non payment of diyat and arsh. Rs. 109800/- The amount was paid by the jail authorities and prisoners were released forthwith.

Moreover, the The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry also ordered the release of other six prisoners within a week who were confined in jail due to non payment of arsh and diyat amount Rs. 1394315/-. The Chief Secretary, Punjab assured to pay the amount for the release of six prisoners within week.
