Karachi: In a notable development for economic collaboration, the Consul General of China in Karachi, Yang Yundong, has emphasized the need to bolster trade relations with Pakistan, advocating for enhanced bilateral trade through increased cooperation. This was announced during a meeting with a delegation led by Salim Valimuhammad, Chairman of the Pakistan Chemicals and Dyes Merchants Association (PCDMA), at the Chinese Consulate.
The meeting signaled a significant step in strengthening ties between the two countries, with agreements reached on key initiatives, such as the expansion of the Pakistan-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the organization of a China Solo Exhibition and an Investment Summit in Karachi. These efforts aim to boost trade, attract investment, and create new opportunities for collaboration.
The PCDMA delegation, which included several notable members, proposed various measures to enhance industrial and trade relations. The Chinese Consul General welcomed these suggestions and committed full support to initiatives designed to enhance bilateral economic cooperation. Yundong assured the delegation that PCDMA members would receive priority for visas to facilitate business exchanges and promised an expansion of the FTA to include additional items, particularly in the chemicals and dyes sectors.
Chairman Salim Valimuhammad emphasized the importance of hosting a China Solo Exhibition in Karachi to allow Chinese businesses to display their products and engage with local industry leaders. The Consul General agreed to collaborate with the PCDMA to organize this significant event. The discussion also included the necessity for a China Investment Summit in Karachi to draw Chinese investors to Pakistan’s growing industrial sectors.
Valimuhammad also highlighted the need to include more items related to the dyes and chemicals sector within the FTA, specifically chapters 28, 29, and 32, as these are crucial to Pakistan’s economy. The Consul General confirmed that the Chinese Consulate would work with the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad to facilitate these modifications.
In closing, Valimuhammad expressed gratitude to Consul General Yang Yundong for his steadfast support and collaboration, marking the beginning of a new phase of economic partnership between Pakistan and China.
