Concerns Over Kashmiri Identity and Cultural Erasure Under Indian Rule, Islamabad

Islamabad, A report by Kashmir Media Service has raised alarms over the alleged efforts by the Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to undermine the distinct identity and culture of the people in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The report accuses the administration of attempting to replace the region’s cultural heritage with its Hindutva ideology, posing a threat to the Kashmiris’ freedom movement and right to self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian government, post-August 5, 2019, has been orchestrating a plan aimed at erasing Kashmir’s unique identity to weaken the local struggle for self-determination. The service claims that Hindutva leaders are intent on obliterating Kashmir’s identity to reestablish a pre-Islamic Hindu civilization, aligning with the objectives of the BJP and RSS.

The document further asserts that India is enabling settler colonialism in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) by relocating non-local Hindus to the region, thereby threatening to transform the demographic majority from Muslim to minority. It interprets the abrogation of Article 370 as a strategic move to advance this Hindutva project.

The Kashmir Media Service emphasizes the critical need for Kashmiri unity against these alleged endeavors, warning that the loss of cultural and national identity could fatally weaken their autonomy movement. It insists on the existential importance of maintaining Kashmiri identity for the region’s inhabitants.
