E-Procurement System Expands Across 27 Ministries and 280 Departments in Pakistan

Islamabad: The government has successfully implemented an e-procurement system across twenty-seven ministries and 280 public departments, marking a significant step in enhancing transparency and efficiency in public procurement processes. This initiative, part of the ‘E-Pak Acquisition and Disposal System’ project, is aimed at curbing corruption and tax evasion during procurement.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the system, supported by the World Bank, is designed to streamline procurement by digitizing the process, thus reducing opportunities for corruption and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Already, around 13,000 suppliers and business firms have registered with the e-procurement system, allowing them to participate in federal government procurement processes without any charges.

This extensive adoption signifies a major advance in the government’s commitment to reforming and modernizing public sector operations through technology. The move is expected to foster a more competitive and fair environment for procurement, benefiting both the government and suppliers.
