New Delhi, June 05, 2018 (PPI-OT): Former Indian police chief in occupied Kashmir, Kuldeep Khoda, has admitted that a “cult”, a euphemism for pro-freedom sentiment, has born in Jammu and Kashmir with more educated youth getting enthused to join armed struggle as an “attractive and glamorous” option, as common man is fed up with the existing system.
Khoda, who is among the longest serving police chiefs in occupied Kashmir in an online article said, “When political grid is inactive…, common man on many occasions becomes a victim of favouritism and nepotism. Frustration of common man with the system he is in, has to find an exit route.”
Examining the reasons for increasing number of youth joining militancy, he said, as a result of system failure in the Kashmir Valley, gun is not only a readily available option but an attractive and glamorous one as well. Without coming directly to the real cause of growing frustration among the Kashmiri youth, Khoda, who served as chief vigilance commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir before retiring last year, minced the words by saying that “the glamorization of militancy has attracted many well educated boys into its ranks”.
He admitted that a large number of educated youth are becoming part of the freedom movement and to spearhead it. “A local Ph.D scholar studying in Aligarh Muslim University, a faculty member from Kashmir University who subsequently got killed in an operation, an MBA son of a prominent separatist (Hurriyat leader), are some of the recently recruited educated youth,” he said. This, he added, is changing the dimensions and dynamics of the (freedom) movement.
