Srinagar, May 01, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has been invited by the European Union to an international conference on Kashmir being held on May 27 in the Birmingham city of the United Kingdom.
A spokesman for his forum in a statement said, “The European Union in its invitation letter has clarified that the EU supports the just cause of the Kashmiris and stands for peaceful and lasting solution to the Kashmir dispute.”
“Gilani Sahib has accepted the invitation and decided to leave for Birmingham in the third week of May provided the authorities issue him the necessary travel documents,” the spokesman added.
The statement said that the veteran leader had last attended an international conference in 1981.
“Since then he did not attend any conference because of the denial of passport to him by the authorities,” he added.
“The moment travel documents are issued, Gilani Sahib will leave for Birmingham,” he said.
The spokesman, appealed to the European Union to impress upon India to do away with all impediments and issue travel documents to Mr. Gilani.
