Fact-Finding Report Reveals Planned Violence Against Muslims in Kolhapur

New Delhi: A detailed investigation into the mob violence in Kolhapur district has uncovered that the attacks on Muslim-owned properties and a historic mosque were orchestrated, with perpetrators brought from outside the area specifically for this purpose.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the violence on July 14 targeted a 300-year-old mosque, dozens of homes, and shops in Gajapur village. The fact-finding report indicates that 42 structures were damaged, including 41 houses and 10 shops, alongside the mosque. The investigative team, which includes members from the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) and the Study of Society and Secularism (CSSS), has called for a High Court-monitored investigation into these incidents.

The report details how attackers, armed with swords, hammers, and other weapons, were mobilized following meetings organized by local figures. The assault lasted for approximately five hours, during which significant looting and property damage occurred, including the desecration of the Holy Quran and a cemetery.

The motive behind the violence is described as both political and communal, aimed specifically at the Muslim community without any provocation related to land encroachments. The fact-finding team has advocated for stringent legal actions, including terror charges against those involved, and a thorough investigation under the supervision of the High Court to ensure justice for the victims.
